You are probably familiar with the principle of cold air intake. The colder the air the more oxygen molecules get sucked into the intake which results in more powerful combustion.
Some data suggest that for every additional 4°C of hot air the engine looses approx. 1% of power.
When I had disassembled the front bumper I immediately noticed the big resonator box and plastic pipe attached to it. First thing on my mind was to ditch the resonator and keep the lower plastic pipe to lose some weight in the front (the weight of resonator box is 2 kg).

Then I had a new idea of trying to modify its shape into a cold air pipe. It was a pretty easy and quick job using a heat gun and soldering iron for welding the cut pieces together.

ReplyDeleteHard to say, I didn't dynoed it before the mod, can't say how much this mod helps. I'd estimate 1-3Hp max depending on the driving conditions.
